History

Alastair has travelled the world working as a mercenary for many groups, under the pseudonym "Grim." He fought in military actions for many governing bodies, but more prominently for resistance groups as the Garlean Empire spread across the continents of Hydaelyn.Known for his professionalism, discretion, and ability as both a combatant and commander, Alastair's reputation began to very much precede him. His talent for engineering was the most surprising part, something he wasn't willing to explain the origin of but came as a boon to many employers. It might not come as a surprise, then, to find that he eventually retired from mercenary life after being offered a position working as an engineer for an organisation in Eorzea calling themselves the 'Scythewoods.' Through them Alastair found his anti-social mannerisms starting to lift somewhat.By the time he departed the organisation with an intent of founding his own alongside a handful of others, Alastair had changed a great deal. He had even found love. No longer did the life of a wandering mercenary appeal to him, instead he sought stability and sought to create it himself. With a few bumps along the way, the Embergarde was formed, registered as a legitimate adventuring company. Adventurers' Guild approved. It was a major shift in Alastair's former life. But now he is dedicated to the life of aiding others, while also teaching and training new adventurers.

Hooks

▪Former Mercenary
Alastair was a mercenary for a very long time. Going by the name Grim, he has worked all over the world for different groups, both rebel and official. By the time he finally retired from the life to settle down, he had gained a reputation that very much preceded him. Perhaps you know him and even worked with him as a fellow mercenary, or maybe you were on the receiving end of him working for the other side, or you could even have been one of the people that hired him. I'm happy to go with the flow!
▪Talented Engineer
It was actually this talent that first pulled him out of the mercenary life. He was offered a job as an engineer, where he ended up having the run of an entire workshop. While under his tenure with the Scythewoods, Alastair made many different bits of machinery he sold to third-parties. Perhaps you're in possession of one, or you've heard of his work before, he doesn't take commissions anymore but for the right price he might. Any excuse to steal the company workshop from Embergarde's chief engineer.
▪Company Master
Flyers for the Embergarde are posted in all of the major Adventurers' guilds across Eorzea. It lists Alastair as the company master, quite the change for a former mercenary. Though not all that much, adventuring is just mercenary work with a moral compass, or so Alastair often says. He's always looking for talented adventurers to fill their ranks, or promising upstarts that might be looking to apprentice to expand their skills to become true adventurers in their own right. Approach him about it if you'd like!

OOC

Hey! I'm Grim, a roleplayer with a good 20+ years of experience from the UK. Though my roleplay times aren't stuck to EU times, as I make terrible decisions when it comes to my sleep schedule.IC and OOC are to be kept strictly separate. That doesn't mean I'm not willing to become friends, it just means that I am not my character. I do not necessarily share their views or beliefs at all. There's very little I'm not willing to RP, just so long as there's some build or reason for it. That means I don't take random offers of ERP. I need more than just a /tell to make that happen.I'm always open to plot ideas! Send me a /tell to discuss them with me, I'll never turn someone away for trying to get creative. That doesn't mean that I'll agree to everything, but I'll hear you out.I hope to see you in-game!Artist credit for Grim's commissioned artpiece.
